Uppercut Deluxe Matte Pomade review
Uppercut Deluxe have been a barber’s staple for years. You’ve no doubt spotted their branding and products in on your favourite barbers walls and shelves. Here, I’m going to look at one of their best sellers: their Matte Pomade.
Inspired by the timeless style of the 1950s barbershop and its spiritual founder, Willy ‘Uppercut’ OShea, Uppercut Deluxe has a modern, yet traditional approach to mens grooming. An Australian born brand proudly made with only the finest ingredients, Uppercut Deluxe delivers a core range of high quality grooming products for men without all the fancy embellishments of salon brands.
According to Uppercut Deluxe, it is an all-rounder, formulated to give a medium hold with a natural matte finish. It performs exceptionally well in a range of hair lengths and types and has been designed to create a broad range of styles, both classic and modern. It’s also water soluble so it can be washed out with ease and has a smell so good you’ll almost want to eat it (please don’t). I’ll come back to the smell later…
This has been my go-to hair styling product for the last few months and for good reason – works well and it delivers what it promises. You get 100g / 3.5 Oz for your money and it retails at £17.00 so it’s not cheap but you’ll find it for £5 less online if you shop around.
Once open and in your hands the first thing you’ll notice is that smell and yes, it smells good but to me it smells like biscuits. Not a bad thing, sure, but it’s quite sickly sweet. However, one on your hair the smell doesn’t last long.
TGH TIP
Finish your style with a light spray of hairspray to set it for the whole day.
It performs exactly as described, it’s a medium hold with very little or no shine. It’s very easy to use too much for on first use go on it – a pea size amount to start with – you can always add more. Because of that I see it lasting a very long time. I’ve used it almost every day over the last month or two and I’ve hardly made a dent it in it.
